Aileron stops

I was looking at a friends bc12-d frame that is being recovered. I noticed his had adjustable aileron stops welded to the frame.

My bc12-d doesn't. My plane also appears to have had the rear section of the fuselage replaced at some point as well. Is this something I should be concerned about?

Never saw or heard of an adjustable aileron stop welded to the frame.

I am thinking he should be concerned. Maybe there is a 377 documenting it. There should be.

Thanks for the response. I'll try and get a pic posted.

On a very related note, The specs call out the degrees of travel required. When setting up the plane controls, do I just need to make sure that is the minimal amount of travel?

Having the rear section of the fuselage replaced is not all that unusual. That's the airplane's low point and water collects there, rusting the tubing over time. The factory used to sell just the rear section, often called a tail clip, to solve this issue. That could quite well have been done on your bird.

I reread my original post and realized it may have not been clear. I wasn't concerned about the tail section of the fuselage being replaced, but the lack of elevator stops. The tail in picture has elevator stops on it so it must not be your plane, right?

Yes, I have never seen a bc12d without them and without them you have no elevator limits which may result in damage to the a/c at speeds over 105 mph and possibly other things that I did not think of yet.

Copy your friends or find a junk tail and cut them off.

Anyone have a scrap tail they would be willing to part with? Or at least the elevator stops.

William, I have 2 of the "elevator stops" that I salvaged off a BC12D. Email me your Mailing Address and/your e-mail address. I don't have the related piece that each stop threads "into"...ie., the piece which is welded to the airframe. These are the adjustment pieces: with a thick, round "flat" on one end and a set of threads on the other end, each with a castle nut, used to lock things at the point of adjustment. My brother is going to be in Nampa and Meridian in about a week. If you want the parts, I could send them down with him. Price?? How about I give them to you? You don't want to even think about flying without them in place. Dick
