    Hello there all.

My name is Jayson van Schalkwyk and I from Johannesburg South Africa.

A friend of mine and I have recently taken over a (un) started project. It is a BC12D, s/n 9762. She has come as a fuselage, gear legs, fuel tank, tail feathers minus the Vertical stabiliser and some small bits and pieces. Sadly, no wings.

Again, sadly the fuselage has stood outside for some time, guessing around 2years or so. There is some surface rust and some nasty rust around the tailpost, so much so that it has rusted THROUGH the tube. I am trying to establish how bad the rust is on the other tubes and where or not it is ok to continue with the project.

I have built or restored any flying machine so this will be a STEEP learning experience. I do have a com license and fly king air 200 and Hawker 800's and naturally member of EAA.

I will be asking tons of questions in the coming months and any advise on where to start would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks
    Jayson

    Re:Wellcome

Jason, you will find an enormous amount of information on this forum. Welcome to the Tribe! You've bitten off a real project, but it can be done. Both of the guys on the forum right this minute have been to Alaska and shared Taylorcraft experience with me first hand. When are you coming?

      Re: Wellcome

      Jayson,
Pictures will be a big help in getting your questions answered....Most of us are guys and we like to see pictures(no offense Taylor maid). Pics will also help for a builders/rebuilders log. The tail section in these bird, like all tube built taildraggers, are commen to rust out. They can be repaired or if you can find a fuslage that has been wrecked in the front you can splice the two into one. Used parts are not that hard to find over here in the states but I don;t know how it will be over there. I would plan on trying to locate another taylorcraft for parts or possible plan to have most of the parts shipped overseas to you. Good luck and let us know if you have any questions at all....if we don't have the answer right away we will get it for you.

        Re: Wellcome

Hi there guys. Back in the office from my day charter.

Kevin, Dick thanks for the tips. I have taken a few pics and will post them up for some comment. At this early stage, ANY help/advise is GLADLY taken.

There is another Tcraft which has been sitting in a AMO hanger for some time at a field not far from home. I intend getting hold of those guys and taking a ton of pics to try and use as some idea of how things should go together. My project is really bare bones.

Will definatly be back here for more tips.

        Keep the blue side up...

          Re: Valuable link

Jayson, these links to a couple of our members' sites will really clarify a lot of things when you don't have all the parts of your project. These aren't the only excellent sources, but I was able to access them quickly. Others will surface. These links are more valuable than Gold!!!!!!!!
