    Re: gross weight ?

Hi Marc, if your plane is on wheels you use 1200 lbs. if its on floats then you use 1278lbs.

Gross weigt ? 1200 Lbs on wheels and 140 mph VNE
1278 Lbs on floats and 129 Mph Vne .
Can one placard the land plane to 129 Mph Vne and use 1278 lbs gross? would be nice with extra punds.

I would like to do the same thing. If you find out that you can do it let me know.

No, you can't do that...the extra weight is to "compensate" for the float installation, and ONLY in that configuration can you increase the gross. Your aircraft has to conform to the type certificate (down here..don't know aobut one that's in "owner maint, up north), unless legally modified and approved by the administrator (such as STC or field approval).

Actually, while the extra weight does in fact compensate for some of the added weight of the floats, the reason the extra weight is allowed is because the floats actually produce some small amount of lift in flight, and reduce the stress in the rest of the airframe.

Thats right, the floats fly and produce lift! So no gross weight increase. I can honestly say that I have never flown more than 400# over the gross weight limit.... and they still fly....to get a gross weight increase you will want the longer engine mount to get the CG within the limits....that is one of the things used for the paperwork for the 200# baggage requirements.
