  • I just ordered a Tarver Prop

    OK,
so I just ordered a Tarver Prop . I should have it on within a couple of weeks and will report back with the results . I'm hoping for a big improvement
in take off ,climb and a little in cruise .

My T has a C90, is on floats and I have a 1650lb gross. Experimental BTW.

Oh, and I guess the old prop will be for sale It's a Sen 74 X 39 polished al
baby. I will want to verify the new before I let it go though .Just in case .

Sounds great Robert! I can't wait to see how it does for you!! I always figured if you could put a variable pitch prop and a horizontal stab jackscrew on a Tcraft, you'd really have the best of both worlds! I may be interested in your old prop also, so please keep me in mind.

Direct from Kent Tarver of Tarver Propellers in Florida . $ 4700.00 US plus
crating and shipping . Supposed to give 100% hp for take off so this should
be interesting if it does. My current prop will get to about 2450 initially on floats in the plow phase . If I can get 2700 + this would be a tremendous
        advantage .

What is he using for a blade?? I have talked to him in the past about building me a 85 HP Swift prop for my Taylorcraft but he couldn't do it at the time for some reason. I have the hub and has fair blades in it, but don't trust them enough to go fly. I would LOVE to hear what kind of performance you get out it. I have wanted to do that for a long time.

Tarver is not in Florida unless he moved very recently. He is based in Nevada.

              Hi Mike,

Kent Tarver got FAA approval some time ago for the manufacture of new certified Aeromatic blades. As you know, it was a long and arduous battle! He has a bunch of hubs for the F200 props and is selling new Aeromatics for $4750. He brought one to the Columbia Luscombe Fly-In a year ago and they are nice. If I understood him correctly, I don't believe he is taking on any repair work as he's trying to focus on building props. Give him a call though, to be certain.

He has a website: http://aeromatic.com/ Lots of prop info there and contact phone numbers/email, etc.

I have all his info and know him quite well. We talk several times a year. I know all about his plight as I went though alot of the same issues he did to get our shop certified. He is building a F220 for a F-24 in my shop now. I will ask him again about it when I get closer. Hard for me to choke down $5K for a prop when I can build a fixed wood one myself. lol.

                  Mike,
Since you are a prop guy let me ask you a question.
                  Supposedly I have a 75 hp c on my L2 with a 72x42 sensinich woody.
It turns 2150 static and any climb attitude...steep or shallow.
                  2450 to 2475 in cruise.
Should I be using something different?
It burns a half qt. of oil during an entire 25 hour oil cycle and gets 3.5 gph at 95 tas.
Can I better the climb and speed with a different prop pitch and not damage the oil and fuel numbers to badly?
                  Chris

Sure mike, I will post as soon as I get the results. I intend to go do all of the tests with the fixed prop and immediately change and retest with the new. I sure hope the results are outstanding because this is a lot of money .

C75-12 or A75-8? Sounds about what it should be doing for a wood prop. The only way to get better numbers is to go to a metal prop.

it is a modified a65-3 and what does the ck in the prop numbers mean?

Re: I just ordered a Tarver Prop

CK is the hub and blade design designation. Does it still have the up exhaust cylinders on it? For an A75, you are turning it slow, but that is a good thing when it comes to original A series cylinders and their small valve stems. You are not quite making 75 hp but good enough. Red line on the A-75 is like 2600 or something rediculous and is suppose to have a 69" or 70" prop to wrap it up to get the hp.
