Re: A65 accessory housing required (UK)

            All

Many thanks for your help so far chaps. I have had many kind offers of help and it looks as though I have finally got my self sorted (hopefully). My accessory housing is boarding a plane bound for your side of the pond as we speak and will be re-worked and emerge as good as I can expect.

My last problem is the gears and gear cover plate. I don't know if my English accent is giving your suppliers nerves in dealing with me but the best price I have had for the two gears and cover so far is.........................

            ........$475!!!

Surely there must be a place I can buy the kit cheaper than that? Someone once said it should be about $250 which I would kind of expect. But $475 just seems too much. Am I expecting too much?

If anyone can find a contact for a sensibly priced new kit of these 3 parts I would happily reimburse them for their time spent searching. I feel a bit helpless this side of the sea and the UK just doesn't stock this kind of thing. I have emailed a few suppliers but just don't seem to be getting a reply. Is being in the UK offputting for suppliers in the US?

            The part numbers are:

            Oil pump gears - P/N 3562 and 21343
            Oil pump cover - P/N 21160

Once again, any help gratefully received.

            Jonathan

(Bored of being grounded only after one week of it!!)

Re: A65 accessory housing required (UK)

              Jonathan,

I've managed to get a copy of the C85 parts list and I quote:

              OIL PUMP GEARS AND COVER:
NOTE: There are only two oil pump gear and cover combinations for all 4-cylinder engines. One is for all -8 engines: the other for all -12.

Unfortunately my gears are off a -12 engine (with electrics) and I you have a -8 engine (no electrics).

So dammed close - sorry I couldn't help.

              Andy.

                Thanks anyway Andy

I will keep calling random suppliers in the US and wait for a sensible price. It might be that the $475 price is "sensible" and that I'm expecting too much. Please let me know if so!

A65 accessory housing story..... the final chapter for those who are interested......

Well, after finding out that USPS had "lost" my accessory housing I had to bite the bullett and buy another one. I was lucky enough to find one that was in excellent condition in the UK (how I managed it I don't know).

Anyway, that was just the start of the problems....

I have had to install new Superior pistons and rings and new pushrods to boot. The oil pump gear that came from Don George was new and perfect (albeit pricey at $495 + shipping but then I suppose I couldn't expect any cheaper on this side of the Atlantic). Don George's chaps gave excellent service and their communications were faultless.

I had a call today from my engineer to tell me that after two days of getting this lot back together that thpressure is 48 cold and 41 hot. Compressions are 78 all round and I have to say, I can't wait to fly her again.

I have been lucky enough to have been given the use of a Luscombe for the past few weeks. Although a great aircraft (and the one I have been flying is really nice to fly), when Rob let me have the controls of BREY I remembered why I love the T-Craft.

My wife (bless her) anticipated 'NR being ground bound for some time and put a framed pucture of her by my bed! There is little doubt about it, there is something about these T-Crafts that gets under your skin. I am SO excited about getting her back.

Thanks to those who gave advice when I needed it and to the kind person who offered to take some accessory housings to Oshkosh for Rob to bring one back. Had I known that USPS were going to let mine fall off the back of their truck I would have taken up that offer!!!

Safe flying - i'll post an airborne pic' of 'NR when I get one

She seems to be flying very well. It's true that aeroplanes will fly if you throw enough money at them!
