I have a 1941 Deluxe project. Did all of the Taylorcrafts have the metal strip at the bottom of the whindshield? My boot cowl has a ridge for the base of the windshield, but does not have the series of holes that would be required for the metal strip. I do belive the boot cowl is original to the plane, but it may not be. If there is no metal strip, how does the windshield mount? If I wanted to use a metal strip, where can I get one?

Are you putting in the post war "blown" windshield or going back to the original4 piece made from flat sections? I am putting the origianl back on my 41 and have the drawings for the metal pieces. I need to "create" the shapes for the clear parts. The intersection between the top of the boot cowl and the base of the front transparency is particularly "interesting" since it seems to be different on different planes.
I will be using the rubber seal and no metal piece on the base of my windshield.

Tom Baker had some and I'm pretty sure Forrest has them too. Be patient with Forrest, he has a lot on the plate and sometimes takes a while (and a couple of reminders you are still there) to answer. He WILL help you, just be patient.
I have a rubber strip but need it for my plane. I doubt a picture would help you much unless you have a rubber extrusion company close to show them. I would BET that that piece of rubber is used other places. Almost everything on Taylorcrafts seems to be used for something else some place.

I am installing a new windshield on my '45 BC12D, about 75% complete, it fits pretty good. I have about one inch of overlap on the top of the fuslage. Has anyone cut that overlap off and butt mounted the windscreen to the fuslage with mounting brackets? The windshield would better match the contour of the wing and make the fairings fit better. I only work three hours in the early morning, it gets too warm after 10 AM. I am using the 8/32 rivnuts mounted in the boot cowl. The windshield is .145 thick, a little more than the original. I will have to make new fairings for the boot cowl to the windshield. Had to cut about an inch off the front and about one-half off both sides to get a fit and match the profile of the leading edge of the wing.Walter Hake TF#

Anybody know what the thickness of the front, top and side pieces was on the pre war 4 piece windshield? I have heard the original material wasn't Plexiglas ( and couldn't have been Polycarbonate). I heard a name like Pyrolin or something close was used prior to WW-II.
