  • Need Exhaust - 3 questions

Does anyone have a photo or comments of the 2 pc exhaust made by Sonny Poarch for BC12D?

Does anyone have an exhaust for sale?

Does the same exhaust fit a BC12D and a BC-65?

Re: Need Exhaust - 3 questions

    1. I have that exhaust on my plane. I don't have pictures, but it looks just like the one pictured on his website. It works great, fit well and was MUCH easier to install than the stock exhaust. I think it sounds better too.

    2. I recently sold an exhaust on Ebay....I bought it on Ebay to get the heat muff that came with it. It brought $425. It's the only used one I've ever seen for sale.

    C. Don't know, but it seems that it should.

Thanks Vincent... Thinking about buying the 2-pc.

Another Question - does it come with its own shroud or does it use the same shroud as the original?

Re: Need Exhaust - 3 questions

It does not come with a shroud. I believe Sonny produced shrouds for a short period of time (not positive), but they are apparently tougher to produce than the exhaust.

The original should fit. I had to do a little "custom" work on the cuff that fits over the shroud on the pasenger side to make it work, but it didn't take a lot.

Every shroud I've ever seen is a little bit different, so it might not be perfect for the one you have, but is easily adaptable.

          Terry,
I have a heavy steel jig with which was purpose built to weld an exhaust for a BC12-D. If you can get down to Bulverde you can certainly borrow it.

Now meanwhile, I need an F-19 exhaust if anyone has one they could part with. If not, how about letting me use one for a template?

              Mark,
I might consider going this route. Do you know of a good source for bending that size of tubing?

              Kevin,
Yes, please send contact info. Wondering though... why is your friend selling? Did he have a problem with it?

Terry, you can buy the tubing pre-bent from ACS or Wicks, and piece it together. Tom

Re: Need Exhaust - 3 questions

                  Terry,

I don't know what you already have on hand, so I'll assume you are starting from scratch. Here is how I would approach the problem:

Buy the exhaust stubs with flanges already welded and bolt than to my jig. Now start building up the rest of the tubing on the jig. Virtually any good neighborhood muffler shop has tubing and bending mandrels for exhaust tubing in the sizes you need. Give the muffler shop the measurements or possibly take the whole jig down to the shop and have them fit up a "dune buggy" muffler right on the jig. Most hot rodders know where to get header pipes made also.

The only tricky part is fashioning sheetmetal into the heat manifold air intakes. The originals have a beaded edge. This might be a good excuse to go purchase the HARBOR FREIGHT beading tool.

If you want a two piece exhaust, consider welding two flanges to it and bolting the halves together. These two flanges could be circular and judiciously placed at the location where the heat muff divider is normally located.

If you get in a bind. I would be happy to go the extra mile and pull my heat muff off and take any measurements you might need. I can get my owner manufactured heat muff off without pulling the engine or exhausts.

This may all be a practice exercise for my anyway because I need to make an F-19 exhaust as soon as I can find a "go by".
                  Best Regards,
