Howdy: SN 6965 (02/1946) has an original compass with the Talorcraft logo - fluid low, paint on case bad. Anyone had one of these apart and had experience refurbishing the instrument? Pearls of wisdom would be really appreciated. Doc

Re: Fish Eye Compass
Hi Doc,
First of all you have an item there just about made of unobtainum, (translate that to expensive), so please be CAREFUL with it. There are several instrument rebuilders that have been mentioned on this site. I picked up an original bubble-faced Airpath Streamline compass marked with the Taylorcraft tag, still painted in military colors and filled with kerosene for my L-2 and will probably send it off to Keystone for repair. I understand they are slow, but good, and I am in no hurry. I also heard they have reproduced the bubble-faced lens for these in a plastic, as the originals are glass. I'm sure you will get responses to your question, or you can use the search mode for a quicker one.Cheers,
Marty

Re: Fish Eye Compass
Hey Doc:
Let's see...bubble face compass, Taylorcraft logo, but low on fluid and bad paint. Worth $5, maybe $6, 7 tops. But for a fellow T-Craft owner I'll make you a special deal...I trade you, even up, a brand new Airpath compass, still in the original box, for your old, defective, needs-a-rebuild bubble face model.
Whatdaya think? I'll even pay shipping!Bob Gustafson
