  • Hint with rudder cables

Doing a intensive annual I have learned a few things.
The Rudder cables were bad at the pulley, repaced by cutting the old one back by the tail (at the turnbuckle by the rudder horn) and with a 1/8 inch heat shrink wrap sleeve I butted the old one right up to the new one end to end. After they were mated by the heat shrink sleeve I pulled the trough slowly and it worked fine. In fact I used the heat shrink wraps over the final assy where the two cable stick out of the copper sleeve on nico part.
Cutting the cable was with a Dremel tool with the 1 inch cutoff wheels.

Opps forgot the important part. Cut and do only one side at a time. I placed 1X2 wood sticks on both sides of the rudder held in place with C clamps. This is to keep the rudder aligned stright. Reason being one side at a time is you need a reference to where the rudder pedals should be when making new cables (how far from the firewall etc.) I did measure and I think it was 6 inches with netural rudder.

On the topic of rudder pedal positioning, any hints. Are they shifter forward or aft at neutral position?

The rudder pedals are 6 inches from the back of the firewall. The six inches where measured from the firwall to the rear of the pedal (where your foot goes) to the front of the rudder pedal.
