  • Martin wire not laying flat

Visited my IA and he showed me a Tcraft wing he was covering. It used Martin wire and wasn't laying flat, so that when he put on finishing tape, it (the tape) would be pushed up. He asked that I put that problem to the group. Any suggestions? - MikeH

The new Martin wire does not fit the hole spacing of the Taylorcraft rib. You must either make a small "S" bend in the wire between each hole (recomended) or re-drill the ribs (not recomended).

also make sure he is using the taylorcraft wire and not martin wire, they are listed together in ACS,make sure he's using the correct one.....one a personal note, unless you have new untouched ribs there will be problem spots where the wire will not lay flat. It is a headache to use and get a perfect job.

When we recovered my right wing a few years ago, we used two tapes over the Martin wire to hold it down.I think we used 2", then 3" on top of that. You can still see it, but it doesn't stick up.

I have a 337 for Marson/olympic rivets instead of the Martin wire. I need to get it scanned then I could send it to you. It looks much nicer. Tim
