What can I do about the windows.the port side is a pop out and the starboard is fixed.
You know of any with them folded out to a latch on the wing...ala cub or is it easy to turn the door into a slider window?
It would be nice to have some ventalation on our 110 degree days and still appear somewhat factory.
I can't really show this plane can I since it is not what it was built as nor was it built or used as what it appears now and what do you label it at a fly in?
    Thanks Dick..........Chris
    Chris,

I also have a converted TG-6 glider. When I bought it from a museum it was advertised as an L2. So, I call it an L2. I hope that does not offend the purists among us....but like you, I would not know what else to call it. It is technically not an L2, but it is indeed a "war bird"...or *was* a war bird??

My understanding, and I have limited knowledge, is that the converted TG-6's are practically identical to the DC65's that were drafted into service as the L2 (no suffix). Of course, there are deactivated spoilers in the wings.

By the way, the window on the port side swings up (outward) from the bottom, the window on the starboard side is a slider.

Tony, I am probably as much a purist as anyone. Your ship is done in prewar trainer colors. It doesn't bother me whether you keep it in that color or do it in OD. Either way it is still done in military color. You could enhance the originalality by putting the stencils back on the left boot cowl. As for the spoilers why don't you reconnect them? I really don't care what color scheme is used as long as it's military. Dick

        Dick,

Thanks for your very helpful responses. The ship is painted now in the colors that it was displayed in the museum. I suspect that the paint scheme is not accurate for an L2, although I do not know. I like the colors even though they may not be correct. The pre WWII training colors look good, I think.

It does indeed have stenciled information on the boot cowl including it serial number.

Do you know if any L2s were painted in this scheme?

Regarding the spoilers, would it be legal to reconnect them?

          Re: L2m Door Removal

The non military model (D's) were done in the blue and yellow that Taylorcraft used then not the colors you have. Like I said before if you like the colors then use them who's to argue. The serial nimber on the boot cowl should be the AAC number and not the manufacurers number. As for the spoilers. They were never illegal as long as the serial number was 5166 and up. There is a note on the type certificate that states that L-2M and glider wings must have the spoilers removed if they were put on an L-2,L-2A,L-2B, DF-65,DL-65 or DC-65 ship. Dick

            Re: L2m Door Removal

I used to fly a L-2M with the door off regularly. I never had any problems but as far as it being legal I haven't seen anything that allows flight without the door installed.
