  • Valve Cover

I pulled my nose bowl this morning to look for my oil leak. I found it. Someone had put a screw that is too long in a cowl cover fitting. The screw had rubbed a small hole in the valve cover. Let this be a lesson to use the right length fastener.

In the mean time I need a valve cover for a C-85-8 engine. Anybody got one they want to sell?

If its a small hole from the point of a screw why not remove the cover, weld the hole closed file it down nice, paint and reinstall.

You can always find them on ebay for $20-40 bucks for a set of four.Just go to ebaymotors.com ,aviation parts, then continental....search until you find them. Or do a search for continental valve or rocker covers

I've got a bunch of them. I'll send you one for $5.00 plus shipping that I guess will be about $3.00. So if $8.00 is ok, let me know. I'll send it out monday. I have your address I think.

Thanks for the offer, but I bought a new one from Fresno. I spent more money, but I am getting the part in time to go flying over Memorial Day weekend.

I just got my new valve cover in -- unpainted. Anybody know a place to mail order a can of spray paint from? I have the standard Continental "tanish/gold" color.

How about primer? I assume I need to prime the cover before I paint it.

                Danny,
Go down to your local paint supplier and have them mix you a pint of high temp paint using one of your old ones to match it by.

I found a spray can at a local shop called "The Aviator Shop", I thought they just had sectionals, magazines, and hand held electronics. Turns out they have a large collection of fastners, paint, etc. I am having the fastner that caused the hole in the valve cover moved 1 inch today. I might be flying by sunset tonight

Update on my plane. The valve cover is on, I set the idle back down today, the brakes work great, I moved the fastner that caused the valve cover damage down an inch, and I cleaned all of the crude out from under the floor boards (and got some nice tools :-).

All I need to do now is put the cowl back together -- and fly, fly, fly!!!!
