  • Can the bow end be cold formed?

Attached is show the flattened end of the bow end of an aileron. It is flattened so that it will fit into the folded aluminum strip that makes up the trailing edge.
Can it be formed cold or must it be heated? - MikeH

        squeeze in a vice.

Note the radius of the bow matches that of some car tires. Stick new tube under rear wheel, backup about a foot, then grab tube and wrap around tire. Presto: New bow like thing.

Remember gang the Taylorcraft wing tip bow is not round like a Cub it sort of straigtens out ( not completely) between the spars. That is a trade secret from C.G. makes her go faster! Live & Learn!

Very nice post Forest! I have been looking at mine during this tear down and thought maybe they had been bent out of shape before I got to her. Larry

Also, some tip bows are flatter than others because when the design changed to include tip lighting, the original Type Cert wing span had to remain at 36 feet...

So the wing tip was flattened more, to allow for the width of the light.
