Why no generator and how is it not an approved power supply? I could see this being the case on a -8 insallation but seems pointless for a -12 install unless the FAA was giving you some crap over it. No benefit to me to carry the extra weight of a -12 if you are unable to use it.

      Re: C90-8

I have not had an opportunity to look for myself but understood that the Generator interferes with the engine mount. The one-time STC is with a wind generator previously approved. The owner of the airplane with the one-time STC wanted a -12 installation so that he can have electric starter. Some airports are now charging fees for hand-propping.

If someone can send me photo verification that the generator is not in interference on the L-2 with an original engine mount, we might be able to include this on the multiple STC. But weight is a consideration because of how we are substantiating the engine mount structural loads.

Previously approved power supply.... yes the engine driven generator is approved on the engine. But not on the L-2, unless there have been a field approval or STC or some other means.

          Terry,
B&C makes a light weight alternator that's PMA'ed and will fit the short mount with lots of room to spare.

The generator does not interfere with the mount, it interferes with the muffler without modification. We used a one time STC that replace the stock muffler with an Ercoupe muffler and modified the stacks to drop it below the generator. The first time we did it we used the stock muffler, and although it worked, it was way too tight for my liking.

Your kidding, got to be a city run airport. How in the world do they monitor it? I have to laugh anymore at the level of stupidity people go to anymore.

Hand Propping and airport rules. Around Denver CO. you can fly into DIA, Centennial, Front Range, Jeffco, with a hand prop plane, you can leave with a hand prop plane but you can't reside with a hand prop plane. I've got to drive an extra 20 miles to get out from under the Class B airspace (no radio/xponder) and to an arport that'll accept a hand prop plane.
It's the wave of the future. That said, I'm thinking of registering my L2 as an UFO. That way I can land anywhere and deny that anybody ever saw it.

                  Re: C90-8

Terry, I have a C85-12 in my DC 65 on the original mount. We are using only the Generator Pad and have the starter pad plugged. She has been in storage a very long time (very dusty) but I will try to get a picture this weekend. We have used Hanlon-Wilson muffs since 1965 so this may not be the example you are seeking. We also converted to a Delco alternator in 1978, all on 337's. As I do this restoration I may try to shorten the mount and modify the cowl to give me a little more CG latitude. When flying solo I have only a little extra elevator travel in a full stall landing. She three points fine though.
