  • Crispy Critter Update 4/28/07

Well,Everything firewall forward is done, just need to install cowling and prop. Engine is done, hookups are done, cowling is done, and it is all ready to close up. The Windshield is trimmed and ready drill the mounting holes in the top for final attachment, that will happen sometime this morning.
Items still needing completion are a final check of the rigging, need to check all the controls and ensure they have to proper degree of travel, safty all the turn buckles and cable ends, wing root fairings and landing gear fairings....that's it before flight!! I have a set of wing root fairings I'm going to use for the test flights while I make a new set that will look and fit better. As for the landing gear fairings..they will come as rainy days keep me grounded,I have a couple sets but when made the boot cowl we cut just a little too much around the front of the landing gear legs so the fairing will have to be enlarged to hide the hole .
Anyway, dad brought it to my attention that I was wrong about the dates when it was last flown and when it burnt. I thought it burnt on May 6,1971 and last flew on May 4,1971 when really the last flight was was on May 1,1971 and she burnt on May 4,1971. TEST FLIGHTS WILL BE ON,BETWEEN,OR BEFORE those dates. Seeing how this is the 28th and the annual won't be signed off until sunday, then once the annual is done I have to make a trip to the FSDO(200 mile drive each way)to get a copy of the AWC made so everything will be legal(the old AWC was burned in the fire),with all this still to do I don't see us flying her until at least Monday evening (April 30) or more realisticly on tuesday morning which is the 1st. I'll try to get more pics this weekend as the rest of her comes together.

Well I just did some touch and go's today, there is still lots of snow in the mountain and they just got dusted on Tuesday....I am going for a nice cross country through the Alaska Range and the Chugach's. Its Plow day in Palmer Alaska where all of the old tractors come out and play in a local field. Well I hope you make it this weekend. Tim
