  • Gascalator Question

I have a glass Tillotson gascalator in my plane. at the last annual we replaced the valve and the gaskets. However at the first flight of the day after turning on the gas and draining it the thing continues to drip. After things warm up it seems to be ok. Yesterday we discovered that the leak is actually at the top. There is a bolt that goes through a bracket on the engine mount into the top and there are a number of spacer washers under the bolt. The leak is getting past the bolt threads and out the top. I put permatex on the bolt and that seemed to seal things up but the entire mounting situation doesn't look right to me. When I looked at a friends T-Craft there appeared to be a fitting on top of the gascalator that had a line coming from it. Is this to the primer? My primer started leaking so I told my mechanic to remove it as I always do fine without it. I'm just wondering if this is how he removed it and essentially "jipped out" the the primer fitting by putting in spacer washers. This is beginning to make sense now since I could not figure out why the bolt threads at the top of the gascalator went right into the gas supply and was not sealed at the bottom.

In any case I want to get rid of the entire thing and get a new gascalator as I'm tired of dealing with this.

I just want to get the best unit out there and put it in and be done with all this aggravation. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks!!

I bought a ACS gascolator from spruce and that fixed my leaks, yes its where the primer line attaches. Good luck Tim

Not sure if a Steve's Aircraft gascolator is apporded on a T-Craft, however it is a fine piece of equipment.

Here's what I used.It was bought from ACS, Wag-Aero sells the same thing. They have a PMA'ed one and then they have a non PMA'ed.....I have bought them both and they are exactly alike. Here's a couple of links that show's mine mounted in place http://gallery.taylorcraft.org/main.php?g2_itemId=8065 and http://gallery.taylorcraft.org/main.php?g2_itemId=8071 In the last one it is hard to see the gascolator behind the oil tank but it gives you a better idea of where it is located on the firewall. If you are using the stock t-craft exhaust you can move it over farther from the center making it easier to rounte your fuel lines. I too could have moved mine over farther but with the luscombe exhaust running back the way it does I preferred not to route my fuel lines over and across the exhaust.

No, they are specific to aircraft style appliations. Tractors are different also. Tim
