  • Crispy Critter Update 4/20/07

Today I have got all engine controls hooked up,bolted on the prop, turned on the gas,4 blades with a pop on the 4th pull(MAGS OFF!!!! , bad ground),fixed mag switch, turned mags on,and idling on the first pull . Two minute ground run at 1200rpms,no leaks, sounds good, great oil pressure, everything normal. No I have two,2 minute ground runs and the rest will be just prior to the first flight which I am hoping will happen sometime in the next week or two.
This is the first time an engine has run on Crispy since May 1971 !!

Great feeling when a major accomplishment is reached. Now all that is left is to go fly it!

        doesn't look so crispy anymore!!!

By the way, is that a hole for a landing light on your right wing? How did you do that????

Yes Richard, it is a hole for a landing light. If you look a little closer you will see I put one in each wing, one for landing and one for taxi. Here's a couple pics before it was covered..http://gallery.taylorcraft.org/main.php?g2_itemId=3222 http://gallery.taylorcraft.org/main.php?g2_itemId=3220

The light will be held in just like it is on an older Cessna 150,170,or 172 with the spring screws to provide adjustment. It really looks good with the light in place and the lens cover is installed.

            Kevin,
Nice job. I am sure you're getting anxious to fly now. Your baffles look good. sorry I wasn't able to help you on those... that project has been on the back burner. I hope to get back on that in the fall. That Champ exhaust looks like a nice clean install. You'll be without that unique Tcraft purr... more like an air knocker cackle. It looks good. Keep on pluggin. you'll be flying soon.

Thanks Terry but I must correct you on the exhaust..it is Luscombe 8.E/F exhaust.....much nicer once fitted but a little more work to make it fit. And as for the t-craft purr.......I think the non-electric 0200 should sound pretty nice.

                awesome news!

My A65 sat from 1971 to 2001. It had been rebuilt in '71 before the owner died and then it sat for 30 years. it was checked out in '01 and found to be fine.

130 hours on it now and doing great.... although some of the seals are starting to weep a bit.
