  • Trailing edge

I started another thread to keep it easier to search for later. The trailing edge on my 41 looks like a WW 1 bird from over shrinking. Do I just buy something from Aircraft Spruce or univair or do I have to make my own? If I have to make my own, any leads on what grade of Alum and what guage would be helpful. What I saw in looking in the catalogs looks wider (front to back) then what I currently have, is that OK.

So many questions, so little time, Larry

Aircraft Spruce carries something pretty close.

Thanks but is it close enough to pass and get a sign off?

If it's under the fabric, the anti-chafe tape, the trailing edge pinked tape, and five coats of dope.... who could tell ? You can measure what comes off the airplane and compare it to what Spruce sells. IMHO it's as close as anyone's gonna get these days unless you have some custom made.

          Larry,
I hate to disagree with my friend Bill, but, I would stay away from the A/C Spruce stuff. It is softer that the original. Thanks to the long Taylorcraft ailerons, the trailing edge sections are fairly short and any sheetmetal shop can bend you up a new set. Even if they charge a 100 bucks an hour, it should take less than an hour to make them.

I had a sheetmetal shop bend a single length of 2024-T3 for mine, .020, worked good and did not bow. Good luck

              Take a number...

I didn't know the ACS stuff was softer. Soft material does not seem like the right way to go for this application.
