Do you have a 337 for them? I'd sure like a copy for my project.
      Great Pic!

I have 8.50's but I dont have access to my 337's, you can have the feds send you a copy my serial # is 2635, and N29787. Mine were approved about 5 years ago, I love them and I keep the pressure to about 12 lbs when I am
landing on off field. Too low and you will tear out the stem. Good luck, Tim

This has been discussed already... but once again I believe that an aircraft certified under CAR-4 can use "any tire which is rated for the speed and weight range of the aircraft" or something to that effect.

I will bet there is some catch-all rule even back in the CAR-4 days that says you can't put anything on that would change the flight characteristics or affect safety.

Thus I am fairly sure that you can install 8.50 tires without too much aggravation. If you put HUGE bushwheels on, which could legitimately raise questions about altering how the plane handles, then you'd have to get it approved.

I had 8.00 x 6 tires on my last T-craft and it looked great, nobody ever even raised a question about an STC. I would mount 8.50's on this one without a second thought if I had them.

            Re: 850 x 6's

Talked with my IA last nite after posting this question and he wants me to go with a 337 as the TC (TC-699) specifically states "600-6 wheels(Firestone 604) with 2-ply tires". As with everything this line item seems open for discussion. I pointed out to my IA that I would still be using 600-6 wheels and changing tire size....... which is not stated.

            Thoughts?

So use the wheels and tires that are approved on the TC... 6.00 x 6 wheels and 2-ply tires that happen to be 8.50 x 6! It appears that the TC doesn't say anything about tire size... only the number of plies. THAT jives well with what I was told about CAR-4 allowing more than one size tire.

The WORST case scenario is that if you could only find 3-ply tires in that size as new purchases, you'd have to get a used worn out threadbare set of 8.50's for a six-pack of beer from someone with a larger airplane, then have a tire retreading shop (Desser) machine off the third ply (leaving you with an artificially worn out 2-ply tire) and then re-cap it.

Although it is certainly an extra step or two, you would save some money over new tires... AND the FAA couldn't make so much as a squeak about it. You are completely in conformity with the TC
