Just for my own info or is this something I gotta show my A&P? - Mike

If he is approving the work he will probably want to see it. I would clear the repair with him before I did it (including all of the details). Some pros will look at it from a "logical" view and others will shoot you down because the wood came from somewhere besides ASS. Better to know what he wants BEFORE you start gluing.

I've already had most of that discussion with him
I asked if I could use clear pine since the lamination will be so small; he said spruce or fir; end of conversation; fir it will be. I'll tell him I got it from Kevin.
He didn't mention glue testing though; should I go ahead and break it to show that it didn't break at the glue line? - Mike

He will be looking to see that it broke in the wood, not the glue, but you might want to get with him to do the break for his and your education. A lot of the A&Ps and IA's any more have never actually DONE a glue test! It would be a shame to mess up the test when the glue was good and have to do it over.
Personally, I doubt there would be a problem with those little pieces if the glue WAS bad since I have seen so many that had fallen off in wings and no one ever saw it. Not saying they don't matter, but it isn't as bad as a splice plate failing.
