    Re: Bully Field is DONE!

How 'smooth' does a grass field need to be? OR when is rough too rough?

I have known today a magnificent intoxication. I have learnt how it feels to be a bird. I have flown. Yes I have flown. I am still astonished at it, still deeply moved. — Le Figaro, 1908

It is about a 4% grade which will really help. AS for the grass- it needs to be pretty smooth but anything similar to the average pasture will work. MIne is smooth now but we just got alot of rain. I'm sure it washed in a few places.

I'll post some photos as soon as I get home from this trip.

        Congratulations Eric!
You will need a couple of lawn chairs for the spot landing judges! Perhaps Mike will share the specifications on his fishing/airport chair.

Well- It is official. I made 2 successful landings and takeoffs from my little 850ft. strip. It was really rough since the grass hasn't come up yet but was well worth the trouble. I have a few more trees to cut and a fence to move before it is truly done. I'll attach a few pictures. . . . .pretty cool to live my lifelong dream!

It's very cool to have your plane right at home....there are always more unplanned leisure flights that way....you'll be sitting around on a beautiful evening and say "I think I'll go for a spin" Where?.....who cares!

Bitchin, Eric! Congrats. Enjoy every second of it. 850 feet... maybe think about the VG's for when you have two aboard and it's hot??

My bet is that Eric does not want to clutter up his wings on such a nice aeroplane. I know I would not. He has the 85 ...light non electrical with a climb prop. If that will not handle the hot humid days leave the pax lookin from below... they will enjoy that view far more than the other possibilities !!!!

                        Re: Bully Field is DONE!

Yeah- I have flown a cub with VG's and they had some effect but my Tcraft is pretty light. I have found it is harder to get in my strip than out. Going out I use only 1/3 or so runway (full fuel (24 gallons) and solo) With the correct fuel load it should rarely be an issue - it slopes downhill and really accelerates fast. Most any 65 HP Tcraft, Champ, or Cub can handle it fine on the right days.
I moved a fence today and plan to cut the last 3 trees on the approach end- I'll be able to approach 25 feet lower which will really help. I think it will just take me a couple dozen landings here to really figure it out.

Landed here again yesterday. I have it here to wash and change the tires to 8.00 x 6's. Here is a photo I took. It was much more difficult yesterday because it was turbulent and I had a hint of a tailwind.
