    Subject: FAA proposed legislation

To our many Vintage aircraft friends and enthusiasts,

While the concept of User Fees as proposed by the DOT and FAA has met with
universal opposition within General Aviation, a bit of good news has
surfaced within the the FAA's proposed reauthorization bill to Congress.

The FAA has proposed legislation that would allow the release of abandoned
type certificate (TC) or supplemental type certificate data (including
blueprints) to individuals upon request so they can maintain the
    airworthiness of their vintage aircraft.
While it's not a complete solution to the issues surrounding the release of
Type Certificate data for orphaned aircraft, it is a very good first step. I
really appreciate the comments sent by many of you related to the release of
data, and the interest taken in the issue by the senior team of the FAA, who
meet with us every winter here in Oshkosh at EAA Headquarters during the
annual FAA/EAA summit. Please read the full story at:

It is also the lead story on EAA's website at: www.eaa.org

A press release concerning this issue will also be sent out by EAA the
    morning of Feb. 7.

    Re: Forwarded: FAA proposed legislation

That was suggested 8 years ago at the very first aging and older aircraft conference held by the FAA in KC, MO. I know I was there. there was also talk of releasing the TC's to non-profit type clubs as well. However, what is more rediculous, is that there is already something like it in place through the Freedom of Information Act. The FAA is "SUPPOSE" to upon request submit a letter to the TC holder requesting release of information. Once the FAA has made a concerted effort to find the TC holder, and have had no response within a certain time period, they are suppose to be able to release the information. I know several people that have done this through the years. Some sucessful, some not. It depended alot on the office that was handling the search. Those that were sucessful had the airplane registered in their name for the information they were searching for to.

I have taken my time each year at OSH ( airventure) to go to the Small AC Directorate meetings too! I have contributed many times to the EAA thoughts. I have registered each year with current e-mails and list information for both the TAylorcraft Foundation & the Taylorcraft Owners Club in behalf of Bruce Bixler too! Too bad H. G. can't keep us updated in a normal fashion.
thanks for finding this one. I will follow it best that I can.
