Subject: FAA proposed legislation
To our many Vintage aircraft friends and enthusiasts,
While the concept of User Fees as proposed by the DOT and FAA has met with
universal opposition within General Aviation, a bit of good news has
surfaced within the the FAA's proposed reauthorization bill to Congress.
The FAA has proposed legislation that would allow the release of abandoned
type certificate (TC) or supplemental type certificate data (including
blueprints) to individuals upon request so they can maintain the
airworthiness of their vintage aircraft.
While it's not a complete solution to the issues surrounding the release of
Type Certificate data for orphaned aircraft, it is a very good first step. I
really appreciate the comments sent by many of you related to the release of
data, and the interest taken in the issue by the senior team of the FAA, who
meet with us every winter here in Oshkosh at EAA Headquarters during the
annual FAA/EAA summit. Please read the full story at:
It is also the lead story on EAA's website at: www.eaa.org
A press release concerning this issue will also be sent out by EAA the
morning of Feb. 7.
