Could that be correct? I went to 11,200 today to check the mixture control and EGT function/practicality and on returning I had burned only 3 gallons of fuel as measured with a dipstick that I had calibrated myself. Full power going up, did some cruise tests at full throttle and came down at 2000 and 500 ft/min. Spun it twice to get rid of altitude (cold and boredom had set in.) Was flying for an hour total. Adjusted mixture starting at 6,000. I suppose it is possible considering my low power setting coming down.
Anyway, got 95 MPH GPS doing a two direction average at full throttle, 2350 rpm with the mixture tweaked. Think that would be about 65% power. EGT is pretty slow to react otherwise it worked fine. Mixture control is smooth as silk and the vernier works well also. Could still get 400ft/min. at 11,000 being careful at 55-60 indicated. Saw 22 degrees F. outside temp, about 55 on the ground. Overcast at 12,000 so I hung it up for the day.

I did a normal power setting with my BC12D from Alliance to Fort Wayne & back I was out 5 hrs. burned 4.75 per hour. - THEN one day I did an endurance of 8 hrs. 30 mins , around 2.8 per hours at 1750- 1800 rpm.
Had water, food & relief tube too!

I'll probably never make that with the bigger jets on the 85 carburetor, but it is going to be fun to work on it. Were you at a higher altitude when your were getting 2.8 per? I figure I have to get up where I'm not generating so much lift from that big efficient wing. Then work on lightening and streamlining for best cruise at say 8,000 and 75%.

Over Christmas a friend & I flew to breakfast about an hour away. I flew the Tcraft & he flew his Phantom ultralight which cruises about 70MPH. I flew about 1700RPM to stay with him. There & back was about 2 hours. We refueled when we got back. His ultralight took 10 gallons & my Tcraft took just under 5. He had a fit & I laughed like crazy. You just can't beat a T craft!

The idle mixture control seems like the most sensitive adjustment to the engine. My A75 fitted with a 1B90 7447 reworked to a 7145 (too short and underpropped!) turns up easily to 2600rpms where I see 200 fpm climb at 10k in standard conditions.

I'm burning about exactly 5gph and am looking for a longer prop.

My mixture control is INOP. I'm unfortunately only able to run full rich. Would be interested to know why?

          Cheers
