Grant, thanks for the heads-up. Don't need another Taylorcraft, but I did spot a nice looking RV-3 there while browsing around. Hmmmmm 180 MPH, that could be tempting.

Darryl, the RV-3 is a once-in-a-lifetime airplane. Fly one and you will never be the same. Seriously, I'm not kidding.

If you are able to justify (or make an excuse for) a single place airplane, that's the one you want, bar none.

There have been some issues with RV-3's, most of which were pilots treating the airplane like a Pitts or Stearman. It's too fast for aerobatics, not 200% over-built for aerobatics, but the control feel and handlilng makes it SEEM like you can do anything. Guys were out dogfighting them without looking at the airspeed indicator and they came apart.

That being said, make sure you get an RV-3 that has the new wings or the full mods on the old wings. The first inflight failure was due to the fact it was too easy to drill the hole too close to the edge of the rear spar/fuselage fitting, and develop an "edge distance" problem. That was when the RV-3a modification was done. The later airplanes had the fuel in the wings which is another big improvement, because your legs would hit the fuselage fuel tank all the time.

So if you can find an RV-3a with all the wing mods and live with the fuselage tank, that's fine, or if you can find an RV-3B that's really fine.

Do NOT EVER pass up the chance to fly an RV-3, IMHO !

          Bill,
I have flown a freinds RV4 from the back seat and I agree they are an outstanding design. We also went from Central calif here to Borrego springs in l hr and 40 minutes. Were doing 225 for part of the trip. Took me 4 hours non stop in the 12D85 to get back LOL. I think dehydration would be the word that I remember from that trip.
Thanks for the input on the wing problem. I have heard that there was a problem, but always nice to get some guiding details for further investigation.
Have to check with the owner on exactly what he has there. Still a pretty good chunk of change to plop down for a toy.

My Taylorcraft is really just a single place, it has so much added stuff (I almost said junk) in it. Can carry a 120 lb lady (preferrably young and pretty) or a kid in it if I only fill the front tank. Shame since I know that it will do 700 ft /min with my 225 lb brother riding shotgun.
