Has anyone done this without welding?

Do you mean the bungee cover tab, Wayne? If so, I welded mine back on when I recovered the gear.

Yes Rob, I overlooked that detail when I recovered the gear or it go broke off during the bungee installation. I have been flying without them but it's cold now.
I was hoping to find a way to clamp a tab or something for a while.

These tabs are slightly away from the covering material, so it might be possible to weld the defective one while it is still covered.

The welder would be wise to insist the gear was off the airframe, however, and some wet rags would minimise the danger of fire around the adjacent covering on the gear legs themselves.

The photo below shows the problem I found after I beadblasted the gear legs....just like you, the tab was broken off. I used the old bungee cover to hold the tab in the correct place while it was welded back on. Bear in mind that mine was welded with no covering on at all, so ask your welder for advice.

        Hope this helps.

          Wayne,

Try taking an Adel clamp (or similar) with large enough dia. that you can shape it around the streamline portion of tubing.

Then fasten it with an 8-32 screw that's too long and a nut, but leave the excess screw length extend downward. Also you want to position the hole in the Adel clamp where the hole in the broken off fitting had been.

Slip the hole in the cover over the extended screw and put a second nut over it.
