Evedently it must depend on where a guy has been raised as to how you say something, side-to-side are alot less words than the other description, have a nice day out there it looks like i may not, but that's not your problem, Happy new Year, gary

They'd be covered but I can't imagine that would be a very significant factor.

          Kevin,

To add to the mystery, the 1937 drawing of part number A-7009, the 7 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch rectangular panel, says "5 per ship."

There's also a part number A-730, a 5-inch square inspection panel, whose drawing says "2 per ship." I found one on the left elevator drawing, on the underside, near the leading edge of the elevator, to give access to the trim tab mechanism.

But my '46 has no 5-inch square panels, and just the two 7 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch panels on the top of the wings.

those panels allowed a mechanic to properly service the aircraft. Remember the original A had no wing bands, the fabric went from wing to fuselage , they were to inspect and service the main wing bolts, they were used at the lower aft end of fuselage too.... for tail spring stuff.

Speaking of covering, can any one tell me what would be the clearance between the aileron and the wing upper trailing edge before covering? I’m at the final stages rigging and making the final adjustment before covering

Keep them close, but no rubbing! allow for the dope & fabric , check the clearance of the end of the ailerons & the wing also....

I can't seem to get to the supercub article at http://www.supercub.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=12249, or Robert's article that I referred to earlier in this thread.

                      Mike,

the link in your post worked for me. I am glad you renewed this thread. I had not seen it before and was unaware that there is supposed to be an access panel on the top of the wing. During an annual a couple of years ago I discovered that the bellcrank in my right wing needed lubrication. The person who covered the wings did not install any access panels. Rather than cut the fabric I was able to tape together two of those plastic straws that come with spray cans of oil. For my other Taylorcraft undergoing restoration, I plan to use a sheet of the material that the round inspection rings are made of. You can cut it to size, glue it in during the covering process, and fabricate the covers to fit. Thanks to you renewing this old post, I now know the size and orientation of the panels.

                        Richard,

My T-Craft I currently have does not have the access panels. However, when I was at Wicks here is Illinois I picked up these extra long lubricant straws in a couple of different sizes. Here is a link to them. I used it to lube the elevator trim screw, that probably hadn't been lubed since the airplane was restored.

I use an old "Prist" straw. They're about 18" long and very flexible! You can most generally get them from the line guys at any airport that sells Jet fuel. They usually wind up throwing lots of them away. I have a bag of them and they're really handy around the shop!!

When I follow the link in your previous post, it takes me to a page that says SUPER CUB.ORG, and has a picture of a Super Cub with Tundra tires and a pretty girl on each tire. It does not have the same url as the link in your post. Here is the url to the page I was taken to. Maybe you can get to this page and then scroll down to the different topics. http://www.supercub.org/index.php
