Anybody here can do this? Fantastic work, men!

    Or This?:

I got so many parts dinged up --- two projects --- it looks like I'm going to have to tool up and learn how.

    Parts dinged up, need repairing:
cowl, nosebowl, pa-18 cowl, nosebowl, wingtip fairings, tank covers, etc.

Very, very few can do the quality of work that was seen on the Hughes Racer. One who can is the guy who DID that work. That's Ron Eglund, who's shop is at the Cottage Grove Airport here in sunny Oregon.

I was down there when he was building this cowl for a vintage Ryan SC-W. It's amazing to watch him work. This new cowl was built from scratch, using the old one as a pattern, although the new cowl was altered quite a bit.

I asked Ron how he learned to do this work and he told me he just started beating on metal. Presto (and 20 years of practice), he got good at it. Nice guy too....stop and chat if you're in his area.

I have done a lot of metal bumping and even some English Wheel work. VERY relaxing and rewarding, but I would never even attempt anything like the Hughs. That is AMAZING. Almost all my work ended up painted and polished aluminum shows even the slightest flaws. That guys work is from a MASTER. I'm a blacksmith by comparison (and an amateur blacksmith at that).
