  • Control Column painting question

    Hi Folks!
    Happy New Year!
I have nearly finished my control column cleanup from my restoration. The question is do I apply primer paint to the part of the column where it rotates under the clamp to move the elevator?
When I removed the part it had one side painted and the other was essentially bare metal.
    Thanks!

    Re: Control Column painting question

I didn't paint mine there (it gets greased for lubrication, so corrosion shouldn't be an issue).

I don't suppose it would matter if it was painted, except that the paint would be scrubbed off and might upset the tolerance between the clamps.

Don't forget this location is fitted with brass shims, and the top shim has a lubrication hole to match that of the clamp!

      Thanks for the reply Robert.
I was leaning towards leaving them bare metal since they would be lubricated.
The brass shims are still there. One of them was upside down when I took it apart.
      Have a good day!
