  • Serial Number match

Does the stamped serial number always match the Aircraft ID plate and Logs on a 46 BC12D? Also has anyone ever seen metal tags welted to the fuselage that are stamped “Taylorcraft Mfg. Repair”. They are about 3/8 inches wide and 2 inches long and ate welded to the frame. I have owned this AC twice in my life first in 1969 to 1973 and just recently . It is the fuselage That I restored in 1970. I have all the logs from Date of manufacture till present

Do a search on serial number here in the forum, be sure to set the option that you want everything since the forum started and not the default which is the past 30 days. THis topic has been discussed before and I think your answer might be in the database,

Exactly I like that "trump". Do you play a lot of Euchre & 500 ? i made my casual expenses ( drinking money) at College playing those games; oooops maybe you are Bridge sort of guy!
I have written many a letter explaining that the stamped ser# may not match the paperwork of the ship do to the original procedure at the factory. It is strange that this still comes up after 60 years or more....

          Re: Serial Number match

We have parted or rebuilt over 30 taylorcrafts in the last 20 years. I don't remember any serial numbers not matching the fuselage number, but I have found that the wings didn't always match. None of them were more than a few serial numbers off and if your fuselage is only a few off, then it probably left the factory that way. Now Piper is a different story, the two don't even come close sometimes. I have seen the repair tags as mentioned on several occasions. Usually a splice were they ran out of the proper length tubing.

Sorry to bring such a old subject up. I never would have even known where the stamped number was on my BC12-D. I do know this has been the same for fueselage for the last 36 years. What happened at the factory in 1946 till then , who knows. The logs are complete and I have all the 337s for the airplane. Thanks to all who answered. Have great Holiday.
