The documentation is in the TCDS. In the model description for the BC12D it calls out for the Right hand wing tank. In Note #2 all the way at the end it says which airplanes are eligible for the Left hand wing tank. Tom

I thought they came from the factory with two wing tanks for a total of 24 gallons. Forrest, where are you on this? Hundreds of TCrafts have two wing tanks.

Well, if there is no documentation this could be a problem but in my view that is the problem, ie lack of documentation. So an IA may need to document the fuel tank install. This after the fact filing of 337's or other paperwork is common and is similar to what is done if a mechanic discovers structural repairs with no logbook reference. An A&P can write up the repair description just as he/she would've if they had done it themselves and then get it signed off. If the repair, equipment install or whatever isn't up to snuff then is the time to start tearing apart, not just due to lack of a form or two.

Now to be honest, the two BC-12D T-crafts we own each have two wing tanks and I am aware that assorted Taylorcrafts come with none, one or two and I never thought to look at the type certificate to see about it. Never considered it an issue before. Something to look into I suppose. I'll take care of that next time I change the wing struts.

Spam Can IA worries about BC12-D

A brand new IA is annualing a BC12-D, notes that only one not two wing tanks on TCDS-A696. He is gearing up to remove one tank. Whoa! But where is the documentation?

Also wonders how tight horizontal tail wires should be. I'm afraid he's going to tighten them too tight. This has come up before but I can't find it.
