While sipping my tea this morning and watching the leaves turn, I thought the following might be interesting.

Here are a few of extracts (by State, year and model) from the FAA N-number database on the 3,535 Taylorcrafts in current (about 2 months ago) registration:

Thanks for compiling this - it IS interesting.

One question though. Where are all the F19s?

I dunno. There's nothing in the Model field that looks like F19. Is FOCKE-WULF 190 close enough? There are a number of different models of that flying!

            Re: Statistics

I think it speaks volumes that California has 33 miilion people and 300 some Taylorcrafts and Alaska has 630 thousand people and 210 T-Crafts.

In California there are plenty of mechanics, in Alaska alot of folks work on their own planes. In CA. there are numerous views and adventures via air but in AK. fewer places to set it down incase something breaks. In CA. T-Crafts are for the underpriviledged in AK. they are THE priviledge.

These statistics are the first thing that convinced my Taylorcrafts are worth double what people ask for them. Great machines -- made well -- engineered superbly --
rugged birds -- ready to go -- and reliable as hell.

            The statistics don't lie.

                Dick;
I believe like the nothern lights... from Denver, I could just make out those amens.

All the best to the Alaska Tribe members from the lower/48 Save some beauty for me. I'm a few years from retirement and plan on bringing my T-Craft to see your sights, fly your skies, and revel in the "last great place on earth."

Until then, hush is the word. After I spend a couple of summers and have the Alaska pictures, however, I can't be trusted with your secret for long.

'45's are kinda a bastard model. Then again there are MANY small differences even between years of like models. It seems to be a compilation of remaining prewar parts and refinements found in the DeLuxe. '45 has prewar doors instead of the spot welded aluminum door, post war panel and boot cowl. Prewar built up wings, but 15 ribs like the DeLuxe, AND has post war leading edge and tip skin.

List also does not mention any F-21's. We had a 1981 model and it is not on the list either. Last I heard it was still around the Denver area.

                      Re: Statistics

Besides the missing F-19s, there are other anomolies in the FAA database.
For example, there are 216 missing years of manufacture. Also, even if the aircraft was converted (mine has a 337 changing it from a BF to a BC-65) it shows as the original model.

Here are the models that have no year of manufacture in the database:
