  • 1st Time On Skis

I HAD A GREAT ADDRENALIN RUSH YESTERDAY. WE PUT SKIS ON 95142! THE WINDS WERE 20-30MPH SO TURNING AROUND WAS A REAL HOOT, TO SAY THE LEAST! i GOT IT HALF WAY AROUND AND THEN HAD TO MANUALLY SPIN THE PLANE WHERE I WANTED TO GO. TAKE OFF ROLL WAS ABOUT 50 FEET. WHAT A RIOT. I CAN'T
WAIT TO GO AGAIN. I THINK I'LL HAVE EVEN A BETTER TIME NOT HAVING TO GET OUT AND SPIN IT AROUND ON TAXI!

I THINK I COULD ENJOY FLYING ON FLOATS...HMMMMMMM.

    I'M GONNA MISS THIS WINTER...NOT!

    TAYLORCRAFT WHAT AN AIRPLANE.

Hey John, wish I could have been around the airport to see that. I was out there at Dacy for a few minutes on Saturday, but not much activity.

    Have fun!

I just discovered this forum and web site, it's terrific. I'm attaching a photo of my '39 BC-65 on skis on 1-31-04, we usually get about 2 days of ski flying here in Virginia, and putting the skis on makes the snow go away. I bought the plane in Florida in 1994, and have had it as far as Vermont, Canada, California, Washington State, and most of the places in between, including a number of visits to Barber Field. It has a 65 Continental, wood 72/42 prop and 12 gallons of fuel. Went as high as 10,600 feet coming back over the Rockies. I have a Fleet 7 also and am building a Nieuport 28 but would keep the Taylorcraft above all the others, too much fun for too little expense.

Hey Forrest, glad to be here. 50 degrees in Virginia today, no ski flying.

Ed, I get about 87 mph cruise at about 2150-2200 rpm, but I think it would do better, if the doors and fairings and such fit better. It was restored in the early '80s in Texas and when I re-do it there are some things I want to do better, plus take it back to the open cowl it had when new (I also have the big tach to put in it). As long as it'll pass annual I'll fly it like it is.

Rob, I'm hiding out from the usual suspects....

                    Re: 1st Time On Skis

$450-$750 for something like a t-craft will use, depends on make, model, condition and if complete, sometimes parts/rigging gets lost

Sold mine, in very good condition, a couple of years ago for $550. Shipping MD to ME was another $50 something. IIRC
