Aside from the engine internals and various A/N hardware, are there any heat treated parts on a Tcraft? I'm back on the hydrogen embrittlement business. - Mike

Re: Heat treated parts??
The ribs are made of 3003 H14 so after the forming process they are complete. If you were asking about ribs? I can't think of anything else on the older birds. Forrest mentioned heat treating aluminum once but I think it was on the F models(window frames or something). WinstonWinston Larison

Re: Heat treated parts??
A series crankshafts are not heat treated. They are soft unless they have been reworked by a repair station like Aircraft Specialties. They nitride almost every crank they do. Why would you use paint stripper on the crank? No heat treating on the gear. Anything chromed or cad plated is suceptable to HB. Cad parts can be relieved if they are baked soon after plating. The one thing that is heat treated is the leaf springs.

It was an attempt to show that somethings on the a/c do get heat treated, but nothing that I'd be around with my paint stripper.Mike Horowitz
