Re: New Book just published by Chet Peek

Next time you come by Chet, how about bringing me a copy? The Piet is on my list of things to build as soon as I find a decent "B" engine. Funk? What's a Funk? If you ever get a chance to fly a Funk, you won't be disappointed. I flew one with a drop floor and I was very pleased with its flying chracteristics. Too bad they are too cheap to put any money into

      Hello Chet,
It was nice meeting with you on Saturday over a Hot Chocolate. Thanks for coming by. I really am enjoying your book. I could hardly wait to get back home to start reading. I am through the first chapter and a half. Excellent! This is an education on light aircraft of the '20's and '30's as much as it is a Pietenpol history. Great job... well done! Next time I am in the area, I would love to see your Piet project and your DC65.

Now we are thinking of inviting all "taildraggers" to this Fly-In, of course all have been invited in the past 34 years any how!

YES bring Ernies ship here. Chet's books are great, I have Taylorcraft books here and Piet books too. Yes the binding sucked in the beginning, hope the latest ones are better. I had two of mine rebound.
Bruce Bixler & Joel Nelson should have returned with another B project from over by Boston. more on that soon.

all this chat about the Tcraft book by Chet has me wanting to buy it now. I think I'll do that this weekend. I've always known there was quite a story to the Taylorcraft but never knew what the details were. Think I need to buy his Piet book as well.

what is it about Piet's and T's that find thier owners fancying them both?!

I think it's the relative affordability. For me, the start of my Piet project was from the standpoint of the least expensive route to having a fun/safe/nostalgic little airplane. Then along came this Tcraft (before I finished the Piet) and would have been silly to turn it down. This Tcraft - my dad bought N95598 back in the mid 1970's for less than $2000. I ended up paying several times that to buy it back this year from the subsequent owner. But still the Tcraft is a bargain. Now I don't have time to work on two airplanes rather than one.

Just kidding. I am making slow but sure progress on both. Heres a link to a really cool blog website with a lot of Piets and other stuff from some really crafty folks. I have photos of my Piet project and my Tcraft there.
