Not exactly about Taylorcrafts, but it's sort of related.

I just recieved my copy of "The Pietenpol Story" written by our own Chet Peek. If it's anything like "They Taylorcraft Story", I'm sure it will be a very interesting read.

And now for the Taylorcraft connection - A good friend of mine is featured with his Pietenpol on pages 97-98. He not only spent quite a bit of time with me in my F21B, but he also earned his tailwheel endorsement in an L2.

I think it is becoming an epedimic...t-craft owners are finding themselves with a second plane being a Piet or vice versa.I might have to go buy a Piet.lol

I've been 4 years building my Model A powered Piet, and not near done. Of course writing the book took about a year out of the schedule. If I found a really clean Model A powered or Corvair powered Piet I'd buy it.

on Barnstormers click on experimental, then pietenpol. it was the second ad from the top this morning. single pic. red and silver. don't personally know anything about it but love the look.

Wow, that is a nice looking original Pietenpol. That would be great if you got one now Chet, it would be fun to do a little formation flying with another Air Camper.

As for the book, I'd recommend it to anyone. It has a great balance of technical and historical information, and gives a lot of insight on what aviation was like in its early days. It also has a lot of interesting & hard to find pictures, ads, and other images from the early days of the Pietenpol. Its a must for anyone interested in Pietenpols or "early" aircraft.

Yes I have read my copy too! Just ordered two more copies.
That Pavliga ship "Sky Gypsy" was test flown by yours truly about 22-23 years ago. That is Frank M. & Frank S. Pavliga not ( Jr.) , sorry Chet. I still would like to proof read your stuff for you! That is Brodhead , not Broadhead.
We have had many Pietenpol fly-ins here in the past , WE are combining the Taylorcraft Fly-In with the Ohio Aeronca Aviators Fly-In here next year the week-end after the Fourth of July . That will be July 6th, 7th & 8th, 2007. WE are inviting the Funk folks to join us along with the Pietenpohl ships too, William Wuynn (sp) & Grace ( a Taylorcraft owner) have done their "Corvair College" here at the Barber Airport two years ago. We have three Piet projects going on around here.
Galen Elser's airport was just a wee bit east of here. I have flown Allen Rudolph's ship and the Piet with the little round engine at Brodhead many years ago. SEE I do fly other than Taylorcrafts

Chet I know you just finised the Piet story but the Baby Ace would be some good stuff too ! Rich history there also.... I know when I flew my Dad down to Sun N Fun in 2000 in my Taylorcraft (some 30 years after he flew me to the first Oshkosh in 1970 in his Taylorcraft) HIS FIRST COMMENT WHEN ENTERING THE HOMEBUILT AREA WAS"WHERE ARE ALL THE BABY ACES?" "THEY USED TO BE A MAINSTAY" Well happy to say I am restoring one from his era and one common to old Chapter 68 from back home...WE...there are a group of us here in South Carolina attempting to revive these old planes and hopefully rescue as many as possible before they go into oblivion.. With the steel tube fuselage they all have and CUB gear coweling brakes etc and the little clip wings they are a worthy overlooked (yes SINGLE SEAT) but in todays high cost go faster world they gotta a lot of appeal on a lazy sunday afternoon... sorry for the non Tcraft rant (I too get involved with other types!!!)
