  • Exhaust coating

Hello friends, I just bought a new exhaust pipe from Wag-Aero. They tell me it is coated with cold galvanize, I think that is just a zinc based paint do you guys recommend I paint over this before I install it or is this a good a significant coating.

    Re: Exhaust coating

On mild steel exhausts, I have used commercial spray-can "high-temperature exhaust paint" in the past (before we went stainless), and it certainly extended the life of the mild steel types.

Of course I would not infer that this is an "approved" system.

Yes it such a thing as cold galvanize in spaycan. Tremclad makes it.
The industrial stuff maybe be better?
I sprayed mine in May and after 35 hr it has come off close to the exhuast/cylinder connection only.
I removed and sprayed under the heatmuffs also. l.
It will get annother coat next annual as well.

Yea, I really wanted Stainless, but the guy in Fla. who makes them is not doing it now for medical reasons. I called Wag-Aero and had an old steel one in 3 days for 530.00 after shipping. not to bad! not to good, but have you priced a custom pipe for a bike? i think its about $600 for one for my BMW 1100GS. theres no way i could have fabed one for $500. and for whatever it worth (not much) its got the little PMA stamp.
