Hi Guys: I recently got a BC-12 with an A65. I have changed the oil once but had a real time getting out the screen with the wrenches that I had. I had long open end wrenches. What size and type of wrenches do you use, and any tricks or modifications. I have a real time getting by the exhaust and mags with the large wrenches that I have.

Re: Pulling Oil Screen
Hi! Open-end wrenches are the best...the fittings are of brass, and can deform if incorrect tools are used (like adjustables).
Don't worry too much...we all have the same problems. Just make sure that the temperature bulb hex is held secure while you undo the middle nut, so as not to twist he rigid copper temperature capilliary pipe.

Re: Pulling Oil Screen
Use what is called a "gas wrench"; looks like a box-end wrench, only 1/3 is cut out so it could slip over an installed gas line. they come in different sizes. You need as many of the surfaces of the wrench on that plate as possible or you will end up with rounded corners. - MikeMike Horowitz

Re: Pulling Oil Screen
Thanks for the reply. Did you cut off the long end (arm) of the wrench any? I used open end (straight open end, with only a mild angle) but could only move the screen housing and nut very little each time because of hitting either my exhaust or fitting between the nut and the magneto. So I thought there has to be a better way. I am thinking that I am going to get a couple of wrenches and cut the arm so it is shorter.

Re: Pulling Oil Screen
hang in until tomorrow, that is uder "special wrenchs" over at the airport.
It is a round piece of metal about 1/4 in thick with a 1 in square cut out in the center, with notches around the outside for a punch to be applied with a hammer to loosen them up . All mechanics working on small Cont. engines should have one then use the open end 1 in to turn it out. I will send a picture..Taylorcraft Foundation, Inc

Re: Pulling Oil Screen
somewhere during my pulling of the screen I had to use a
crows foot. But not the size shown.
Also, the correct name for what I was calling a 'gas wrench' is actually a
flare wrench
