Rob, Do you know of some documentation that I can show him or tell him about to support what you say? He's a good man but he doesn't know small, antique, tube and fabric airplanes.
Ed, I have nothing of that ilk. Perhaps you might ask him to show some documentation where it states a REQUIREMENT to balance the ailerons. Perhaps he could look at the design and indicate where he expects to be able to secure a couple of pounds of lead forward of the hinge line.
Ed,
Tell your IA to call Harry Ingram at the taylorcraft factory(800-217-1399).They are making new T-crafts and none of the control surfaces on the new ones are balance nor where they ever balanced on the old ones.If a phone call to the factory still doesn't convince your IA then I suggest you find someone else to do your maintance(no offense intented).
The factory is located in Texas and there hours are 8am-5pm CST monday-friday.
Hope this helps,
PS.I checked some hidden corners in my hanger and I have two(1 left,1 right)complete ailerons that are good to go,just need to be cleaned and covered, spars are good.I can even cover them for you if you need me to.
Kevin,
Would you mind quoting me a price for your ailerons covered in ceconite less color coats (I have butyrate color)? I could avoid the IA completely if I just swapped ailerons and save a lot of time. Would you be interested in an exchange?
Ed,
I would consider an exchange but to be honest it would probably cost you more in shipping than I would want to offer you for them.
Do you know what process of Buterate was used on yours?I can cover them through silver using Randolph products for about $900 plus shipping and you keep your old ones. Also,do you want 101 or 102 fabric, makes no price difference.
PS.That price is for both ailerons covered through silver.
