  • 65 lyc exhaust fasteners

In my search for a taylorcraft b series, I have descovered a bl65 , anyway, there is a question on this particular aircraft. The exhaust stacks are secured to the bottom of the cylinders with what appears to be worm gear hose clamps. I am asking, because of my ignorance to the o145 lycoming, as I look, I can see this engine is a breed of it's own, with all the sprark plugs on top , anyway, does anyone know if the radiator hose type clamps are standard, or legal to hold the exhaust pipes to the cyl.'s, I hope someone knows this question, this is a 41 modle aircraft with the open cylinder style cowling, thanks, Jack

    Hi Jack,
The few exhaust set ups I've seen on BLs have the hose clamps. But what you might not have seen if you didn't take the pipes off is that one of the functions of the hose clamp is to safety a single (PK) type screw that is threaded through both pipes at the overlap. Looking in the O-145 manual they talk about 'exhaust pipe clamps' in the sections on disassembling and reassembling the engine. No pictures though, and no mention of the screw......

My BL is still for sale, getting ready to put it on the big 'B'

When I had mine I used a pinned strap clamp with a AN3 bolt like used on a Piper Cherokee exhaust. I have seen them with the ring gear clamp like you are talking about. Tom
