  • Re: News from the Factory III

Well if this is any help... most threads get a few hundred reads and last just a few days. At the moment, this thread, just this thread about factory news -- Has over 14,000 viewings and has been renewed through 13 ongoing pages since Sept. '06. I think that says something about our collective interest in this topic.

I have talked to some friends with the FAA and I know what's involved to be able to make certified parts to sell on the open market. Applications, backgrounds checks, permitts,FAA inspections over a timely period,PMA's,etc, etc, etc. The list goes on and on.
I know lots of FAA people too, but real world experience took 7 years to get the Production Certificate, which I still can't sign my own 8130's until I get my DMIR (desiginated manufacturing inspection representative) which will happen later this year. And to get that, you have to have 5 years in a quailty control position.

Gary Green (used to own Jumping Branch Exhuast) built many exhaust systems under the owner produced parts regs, but to do that, legally the parts can't be available though another source. By the reg, if the part is being manufactured by the factory or under a PMA or TSO, that part can;t be made under 21.303. If you or anyone is dead set on making parts, make sure you align yourself with a current PMA holder, or become real friendly with a DER. Otherwise, good luck on getting anything done directly through the FAA when it takes 6 months or longer to get 337's approved today.

Don't worry Mike....the PMA and/or inspections are the least thing I'm worried about.

          • Taylorcraft Factory website

For those who are interested, the new Taylorcraft Aviation website is active.

The website has been under development for months and is a quantum leap from the old printed catalogs in terms of finding parts. More inventory, photos and parts descriptions will be added as the information becomes available.

The FAA-PMA's awarded to Taylorcraft Aviation April 13, 2007 provide the authority to provide OEM parts to Taylorcraft owners.

I built the website for Taylorcraft Aviation, because I want to see the substantial inventory of the factory made available for Taylorcraft aircraft owners. Parts availability increases the value of every Taylorcraft.

I looked up some of the parts. Whats with the rust? How can the FAA allow sales of new PMA parts that are rusted?

If Harry has all the paper work and legaly is the only one what can make parts, is in bankruptcy, and is produssing NO parts.
There does it leave the owners?

I'll play Columbo for a minute...

Web site sez factory is still in Brownsville, and same girl answering the phone...

No mention of a new owner, or at least no mention on the web site saying that Harry is no longer the owner (I think a new owner would do that)...

And no response here of Harry not being the owner, so...

Columbo figures that HARRY is still Mr. Taylorcraft. I'm not going down that road again!

Of course, at this point, someone will answer saying that we should give Harry a chance, because it will benefit us all...

Sorry, I couldn't pass on being sarcastic.

The real power in this deal is some businessmen other than Harry. These folks are honest people trying to get the money Harry owes them. Forrest knows this part of the story, although he's somewhat circumspect about details. I suppose when the time is right -- someone will collect the inside scoop, sort out the details, and tell us. Until then... questions and wondering will persist but without satisfaction, or facts.

SO, I'm not saying we should give Harry another shot. But, we should WAIT for clarification.

I think that also means WAIT to send money

If there are legitimate businessmen involved, who are in a position to provide some badly needed credibility, then the first thing they should do is announce their involvement.

If I heard that the owner of XYZ aircraft company is now in charge of making sure Taylorcraft parts are being manufactured and shipped, and XYZ aircraft company was a credible entity, then it would make me far more willing to send a check.

Keeping it a mystery whether the check is being cashed by XYZ aircraft, Harry Ingram, P. T. Barnum, or Jim Bede will certainly not increase the number of orders!

In the meantime, please remember that you can send your busted and bent cowlings to Tim Wood of STL Metal Arts, and have him repair it into show condition... in far less time than it would take to figure out who or what is in charge of Taylorcraft!

After I got my airplane back last summer I am still waiting on my $5000 worth of airplane and engine parts he refuses to send me. If he is serious about running a business he will return them or send me the money to replace them. Of course we can get another judgement and pick up what he may still have and hold another sheriffs auction.

                          Copy that Harry?

Well, if Harry is not in charge, he must have taught them how to do business. Having incorrect information on a new web site and not answering e-mails is insane considering the treatment we have gotten from "Taylorcraft" in the last few years.

I'm tired of waiting and seeing.

The information on the Taylorcraft Factory Contact page is correct and the phones and emails are operational.

As with all new websites, there are potential glitches as the site goes live. The email delivery was erratic Tuesday due to very heavy traffic, and I am sure the few people answering the phones were very busy. There was a lot of interest in the new online catalog.
