  • in need of a ferry pilot/ 46 BC12D / IN to AZ

Might be purchasing my cousin's 46 BC12D. It's got 55hrs SMOH, new interior, great paint/fabric. He needs to let it go and gave me first shot at it but it's quite a ways away and I can't get the time off work required to fly it home to AZ.

It's located near South Bend, IN (SBN) and I am in Mes, AZ (FFZ).

I have never had to have an aircraft ferried before and I have no clue on costs, insurance, etc.

anyone help shed some light and maybe direct me to some ferry pilots?

sounds like the opportunity for a great dual instructional flight for cross country training and building time.

Most insurance policies have an open pilot clause so that the insurance covers the named parties and also any pilot that meets certain criteria. On our T-craft policy the open pilots include anyone with a private certificate, current medical and a tailwheel endorsement.

Ferry companies generally charge a per day fee plus expenses (food, taxis and hotel) plus transportation costs to or from the departure/arrival points.

Being we are talking a very long distance in a slow plane with only good vfr conditions suitable the number of days could be lengthy. Best to find someone willing to do it on the cheap for the experience. (not that you want an inexperienced pilot to do it.)

Lordy, I'd certainly do it for the priviledge & experience.

Anyone got a spare transatlantic airfare?

Hmmm. Sounds like another good experience.... Not all that far from South Bend, and always looking for a reason to take a Taylorcraft on an X/C.

Rob, maybe we could share the experience, if you can get across the pond?

Guess I should mention, he has the insurance and everything. Does this as a side business. He is an airline pilot for his regular job. Very down-to-earth. He and his wife started "time-pieces", a fractional ownership business for antique airplanes. Top quality folks. Check out his newsletter on his website.

Mike, methinks you should partner up with someone (or more than one) to do this trip. It will keep you enthused about your own airplane, put valuable time in your logs, and it should be a lot of fun. But for goodness sake do it now, don't wait until the weather gets bad.

mgold...I see where you get your name "gold" from anyway.lol. I always though my rates were a little high for ferrying t-crafts and the like at $150 per day and expenses..... who in the hell pays $300 and expenses to ferry anything that don't have at least turbine engines. Sorry, didn't mean to sound like I'm venting on you but if $300 plus expenses is what the going rate is now days then no wonder I've been so damn busy.

weather in alaska is turning cold. better get to it before winter hits, or you will have hard time finding someone to help you out on the cheap.
