  • Who suggested "Aircraft Stripper"? 30 seconds!

I remember Kevin recommending Dad's Stripper, but someone recommended "Aircraft Stripper".
Tried some on painted metal that nothing else I had would touch.
Began to crinkle in 5 seconds and the job was completed in about 30 seconds!

Well, I'd sure like to know the exact brand name and number of whatever worked in 30 seconds! I've had some very long waits for not much removal many times. And I am absolutely sure that a lot of other guys and girls on this group have had the long waiting and poor results experience too!!!

      Bill,
Aircraft Paint Stripper is the name of it.Most Dupont suppliers carry it even several automotive parts stores have it. It is very good and very fast. It is also about $30-40 bucks a gallon!

If my shoes weren't off and the sun hadn't passed the yardarm, I"d go out to the shed and read off the actual name, but as I recall, it's what Kevin said.
Honest - crinkle in 5, off in 30. I'd tried acetone, MEK, and laquer thinner, none of which touched this paint. Cause of the cost per gallon, I bought a spray can's worth- MIke

A guy loaned me a half a can of "aircraft stripper" once, and it worked like lightning. A year later, I bought something that said "aircraft stripper" on the can and it didn't work any better than the Home Depot politically correct stripper.

So, when you get a moment to do it, I'd like to know the actual manufacturer and part number of what works.

I suspect that REAL "aircraft" stripper worked so well, and so many people knew it worked, that other manufacturers started putting the word "aircraft" on their cans of lower quality stripper.

Not that I'm cynical or anything...

I'm always at Sun N Fun! I may need a fuel stop in Liberty enroute next year! Other than that, trying to get time off to head out to Broadhead. Fun folks there. The SAA had their flyin in Urbana a couple of weeks ago, one of the guys had his 170 toilet papered...kinda cool since it wound up as an honorable mention in Avweb's "picture of the week". I look forward to sharing communion (margaritas) with fellow tcrafters! (even if they are from KY )

Re: Who suggested "Aircraft Stripper"? 30 seconds!

I have had a lot of luck when I first started using stripper, but the original paint from 1946 that was under took all love for airplane work out of me. For the last bits of paint, I had to apply stripper, cover with plastic so it would not dry, than 24 hours later the wire brush on the drill would cut it and apply little burning spots to my skin. There was some stuff that has come out about 4 years ago that was supposed to work a lot better then the old real stripper you got in that can, but I could never find a source for it. Good luck, and don’t let my hate for stripping slow down you project.

Next time I will!! I didn't make it to the fly-in this year in Alliance due to a crack in my forward carrythrough. It looked like the weld on the aileron pulley bracket was cracked and allowing linseed oil to seep out. She is all welded up and has made it out of surgury with no complications. Have you ever hear of this problem?

I am planning on flying into Oshkosh for a day or two this year. Is there going to be any special parking for T-crafts? I'll hunt you down and say hello!

THere is nothing in the logs about any fuselage damage, but you never know what happened and was never entered. I think by the time I get back in town, she will be all put together and healed up nicely!!! I can't wait!
