Kevin - have you notice that the label says "Fed Specs do not allow for use of this product on landing gears or struts..." - Mike

Does it means it leaves residues what may cause corrosion over time?
Is it corrosive to aluminium? Many landing gears and struts are made from aluminium.
If corrosive how do I neutralize the residues?
Is it a alkaline ( vineger) or acidic product( baking soda) ?

Re: Who suggested "Aircraft Stripper"? 30 seconds!

The warning about aircraft strippers not being approved for landing gear or struts has to do with its affect on highly stressed and hardened steal and aluminum parts. Landing gear struts on large jets go through several heat treat and chemical processes to give them a very high strength to weight ratio. Stripper as well as other chemicals and over heating the area can compromise the original strengthening process.

Would someone please answer Len and put him out of his misery?
He's been on pins and needles for a day now, thinking he's ruined either his landing gear and/ or struts - MIke

I read this as saying that since Tcraft landing gear hasn't gone thru that process that both Len and I are OK; correct?- Mike

Eldorado Chemical 20 years ago was the best and the military prefered it. have not used in 20 years could have changed

I use Kleen Strip Gel Aircraft Paint Remover by W. M. Barr Co. of Memphis, TN.
It is better than the paint stripper from the hardware stores and has ammonia and proprietary chemicals in it in addition to the nasty stuff, methylene chloride, plus plenty of cancer warnings on the can. It's something like $25 a gallon and will flat pull the paint off. I buy it at the local auto paint store where they get an arm and a leg for PPG.

However, there are paints it balks at, and if there is any better I'd like to know about it, since I have a lot of stripping to do.

This evening I am alodining aluminum parts and jeez that's nasty work too. I like the PPG alodine better than DuPont's. It imparts a quicker, more golden etch.

                  Thankye kindly.
