  • Oil Quick Drain

Does anybody have an oil quick drain on there 65hp Taylorcraft? Which is the correct size to use? Is it the same thread as an O-200?

I have the quick oil drain on my A-65. Don't know if it is the same as the one on the O-200, but when we majored the engine last year the IA installed a new quick drain. It works real slick.

My '46 BC12D with C65 came with a quick drain. It is slick. Especially when you go to fill the oil after a change and it is left open (!) you can catch what is going on the floor after you scurry around and find an old coffee can then quickly reach inside to click it closed. I hope I never do that again!

On the downside, it always drips. Makes a mess of the belly after visiting fly-ins all day. I park her with a jar under the drain tube.

I guess that still doesn't outweigh the convenience. I'll probably transfer it to the new engine that I plan to put in her.

        Jack,

I'm jealous, yours is slicker than mine.

They are all the same, 5/8x18 IIRC. And, they shouldn't leak. Probably just a bad O-ring.

Bad O-ring? Do they disassemble easily to replace the O-ring?

If so, that is great news.

            Thanks,

Depends on the design, but, yes, they should be easy to replace. Be sure to use the correct type of o-ring for lube oil. Many can be replaced by removing the valve and "opening" it, exposing the o-ring.
