  • door windows

I pulled the doors off today,Too cold to fly here in Wi.
I'm replacing the side windows. My are the sliding type.
How is the proper way to mount the rear glass.
How do you keep the glass fron being scrached when you slide them open?
Any suggestion on what to use, premade from Wag aero or make my own?

Robbie, make your own under "owner produced parts" rule.

My back ones slide forwards (elbow room in the summer). Some rear sliders do not slide forwards, but I do not know why.
A vertical strip of felt between the two (front of aft pane, rear of forward pane) should stop the majority of the scratches.

Get the material from your approved Plexiglass (or whatever) supplier.

On the scratch thing i use the little felt stickon buttons you buy at the hardware store used for furniture

The front windows in my F21B slide back. Wish it were the other way around so I could stick my elbows out too.

When did the front sliding back become standard, or have mine been modified by a previous owner?

If you have the aluminium doors, I don't think an STC is necessary...they were fitted as original equipment on many models (including mine), so as long as you follow the existing design (can you have a look at someone else's?) then fit away. Perhaps a log entry might be necessary.

                Anyone else got some input?

Thanks Rob, The only other T-Craft around does not have sliding windows. I'd appreciate photos or drawings that I could work from if anyone knows where I can get them.

Mine are dismantled at the moment...perhaps good for you if you know what you want detail of.

I would suggest you find a photo of the complete assemble first, though.

Would it be too much trouble to email me some photos of the window rails (tracks) in your dismantled doors? I don't know where I would find a complete assembly. It seems that you would just build a two-track frame and fit it in somehow. (How to make what is probably a tough job seem easy!).

My doors do not have any tracks
Rear window was riveted too the inside frame with felt on the top and bottom for anti-rubbing for front glass.
Felt was used on the side of the frame and door for the front glass.
There was a metal strip which went up the back edge of the front window.
Looking at the factory catalog there appears to be a strip for the front of the rear glass also.

My windows have no tracks either...they just slide on what looks like self-adhesive plastic or PTFE tape (which is what I will be using again during the restoration).

My rear window also has a strip riveted to the frame...this came out dead quick, allowing the rear sliding pane to slide forwards (ideal place to put the elbow in hot weather).
