  • Could paint make up the difference?

I'm looking at blueprint D-446 which describes the ribs in the rudder for the L-2, which I'm assuming is very close in design to the BC-12.

The drawing calls for .020 rib thickness . When I mic'd my ribs, they come out at about .050. Granted, the primer may be taking up some space, but .030?

Anyone know what the actual rib thickness should be for the BC-12? - Mike

Lighter is better of course. ESPECIALLY where flutter is concerned on a rudder that has no aerodynamic or mass balance. The British Auster had a huge lead weight on an arm that stuck out from the rudder. This was not exactly a cosmetic upgrade....

Since nobody else had done it, I climbed up and mic'd mine and they're .020 Mike.
I doubt that the primer would be that thick as to make up .030.. sounds sorta like they got repaired before with whatever was around handy.

When you look at your rudder again, would you tell me how the Trailing Edge meets the Leading Edge at the bottom? Mine has this funny arrangement (see attachment) - Mike

Mike, where the tubing drops in size before it hits the leading edge is a patch. Mine is the same diameter tubing all the way and then has a renforcment wraped around the leading edge tube and back onto the trailing edge about an inch.

                    Rob:

Let me step you through the process:
                    1. compose your text
                    2. scroll down until you see a section called “Additional Options”
                    3. within “Additional Options” click on the “Manage Attachments” button
                    4. press ‘Browse” button to locate the attachment stored on your computer
                    5. choose the attachment and press the upper “Upload” button.
                    6. the process will take a few second and will end in one of two ways: if the attachment is too large, you’ll get a message saying so, in which case you need to reduce the size of whatever you are trying to send. If successful, you will see the attachment name appear in the “current attachment” box.
                    7. go to the top of the screen and press ‘close this window’
                    8. submit your message as you normally do

                    Hope this helps – Mike

OK, there are a variety of ways to resize.
sometimes it gives the dimensions and I simply reduce one and it keeps the aspect ratio - Mike
