  • Sheble Aviation drops the ball..again apparently.

So, after three weeks of waiting for "the packette", numerous phone calls to the company, one promised cub missing an engine, one spare cessna 150-150 with a bad elevator hinge, one late CFI, Joe Sheble, 540 miles and one car rental to get to the aircraft, my float rating did not happen. Upon inspection of the spare aircraft, only 1/2 hour after the pre planned time and day, Joe found that his aircraft was not airworthy.....Simple fix, like be preparred and on time, would have found that simple fix hours before, or weeks, and had the spare aricraft ready to go.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND FLYING WITH SHEBLE AVIATION FOR ANY OF YOUR NEEDS. I happened to be in the area working, so it was the most efficient, or so I thought at the time. My good attitude and wonderful, understanding wife, helped me to make the situation better, as did some drinks in vegas, but the point must be read above.

Needless to say, the CFI (an faa DE by the way) was NOT preparred. My wet behind the ear student CFI's onkly there to build time to the ATP Rating have been much more preparred than this outfit was.................and he is part owner of Sheble Aviation.

That's my experience, adn I am forwarding this script to the company, so they can share your thoughts as feedback with them, adn I as well good or bad, or what have you.

I did think he was a "swell guy and all", but business is business...... I give sheble aviation a 1 out of 10 for product delivery, and a 10 for marketing genius.

that's too bad Dan...what are you going to do now? get a float rating back home in AK? Maybe you'll find a more professional outfit to take care of your needs. How much longer are you in California?

I just flew my plane over to New Richmond, WI to Baumann floats to have my floats put back on Sunday. The ice is out over there....they are just east of Minneapolis. The ice will be out on my lake by this weekend. It was 70+ degrees yesterday. Hard to believe weekend before last I was ski flying all over the place.....well, I can't wait to get back on floats...should be a great summer.

There are a lot of places to get a float rating, but here in Vermont on beautiful Lake Champlain is hard to beat. Tie in a short vacation, and fly with Doug Smith, Delta Captain, who has a restored Cub and is totally reliable and a nice guy. Next weekend he's doing a workshop of PolyFiber, which he sells, for an added bonus. And if that's not enough, you'll be a stone's throw from Burlington's outdoor mall, hundreds of restaurants, and beautiful waterfront.
I'll meet you at the airport and give you a ride into town.

All float places mentioned are good. I LOVE Jack Brown's down in Winter Haven , they just do it!! Takes two days great area , warm, fun, Gilbert Field adjacent or big Silver bird into Orlando or Tampa , neat vacation spot too! I was there during SNF & had a great time.

Any of you Michiganders wanting a float rating should check out Traverse Air in Traverse City.....2 days $600 + &150 for the check ride. The examiner lives 1 lake over from the instructor.....they use a PA12-150 on Edo 2000's. Also a nice vacation spot.....and $750 is CHEAP. It also count as a biannual since you are adding a rating.

When I got my SES they had just raised the price to 135.00. (Jack Brown's). But then that was over thirty years ago Dick

I got mine at Jack Brown's Seaplane base in '98. I it was about $800 then if I recall.

It was a good time. After my check-ride, I still had some time to fly out. An instructor hopped in with me to fly for an hour. I told him I wanted to see some alligators. He didn't disappoint. We flew around, and landed on, one of the skankiest lakes I've ever seen. It was full of big ol' gators.

Being a farm boy from Ohio, and living in Michigan at the time, it was a pretty big deal. Now that I've been living in Louisiana for six years...gators ain't such a big deal anymore.

My wife watches those plastic surgery shows and the other night there was Sheble aviation owner Joe Sheble getting all fixed up....he got new teeth a new chin and some sort of skin tightening done. I saw a seaplane flying on TV so I sat down to check it out.....to my disappointment it was only a before/after plastic surgery story. Dan....maybe this guy was busy making this show and getting a chin implant and that's why you couldn't get your SES that weekend

Dano..that is too too funny. It sure did seem a bit plastic in my opinion....
