  • Tailwheel value

I was wondering if anyone had an idea of the value of a Scott full swivel tailwheel (either model 3-24B or 4200). I was given one by an A/P to use to replace mine which broke. I am considering keeping it since my original one is not full swivel so the A/P told me to just give him a check for what it is worth. Can anyone give me some help with the value? It is functional condition althouh I will probably rebuild it.

    Thanks,
    Brian

      Re: Tailwheel value

I sold a decent 3-24B recently for $135. I don't know if that's the going price, but I was happy and so was the buyer.

I think I would rebuild it first before offering any money. My Scott 2000 needed what I thought was a bearing replacement (bronze type bushing). So I bought one but quickly found that the arm shaft that goes thru the bearing was also worn and was probably the reason why the new bushing from three years ago was worn so quickly. I think the price I paid was $220 for that arm alone.

The Scott tailwheel assembly seems to be less expensive than the sum of its (replacement) parts. I was offered a "good" Maule tailwheel to replace the Scott, and it was just as bad and needed new parts to make it servicable. I.E. there may be a reason why it was just sitting around the shop...
