  • Brake pedal pin

In replacing my carpet with a rubber mat, I discovered the right brake pedal to be free on its shaft due to lack of a pin. Since the hole in end of shaft is vertical, with bottom of shaft on the floorboard, what type pin is used here? The left end has a bent over cotter pin in it, which is what I put in the right for the time being, but it seems there should be something better than that arrangement.

    Re: Brake pedal pin

Cotter pins seem to be the deal. Not perfect by design, but that appears to be what the design requires.

    That's what I'm using.

I'm confused by your comment "bottom of shaft is on the floor board". The bottom of the shaft should be quite a bit underneath the floorboard. Have you got a photo?

You're correct, the shaft is beneath the sheet metal floor, but the bottom of the shaft rests directly on whatever is beneath it. Wonder why they didn't see fit to drill the holes horizontally?

When I put my brake pedals back on, I machined .010 off of each side of the pedal casting then used a .020 shim washer between key and pedal. If you don't have access to a mill I am shure one could dremel or sand it. George
