Yokes

Just wondering if anyone has had a little corrosion problem on their old yokes ? I have a 40 B model.. round welded yokes.. Just curious.. One spoke has some pretty good 'pitting' near the center.

I guess I could cut the spoke out and re-weld in a new piece. However, the original 'spoke' was some sort of streamlined iron... not gonna find that... have to make it ?? Comments or help appreciated from the experts.

I think a piece of round tubing could be flattened to make that small sreamline stuff. The ones on my BL when I had it were in good shape. Tom

Wait, that's not the kind of old yoke you were asking about.

Seriously, I have the cast (magnesium?) yokes and they were extremely pitted from hand sweat over the years. I lightly sandblasted, then filled the pits with autobody skim coat putty (airdry), then after Dupont conversion primer, painted with outboard motor paint from the marine shop which is supposedly abrasion-resistant and made for the cast portion under water (could not find spray epoxy in blue so we will see how this holds up).

They look new and really was pretty easy.

Are yours chrome? Mine are in my 40'. Someone cut the top side out of the outer ring to make them more like a traditional yoke though...they aren't round anymore The big tach and all that stuff is still in great shape though. Anyways...I just cleaned them up with a scotch brite and waxed them....they look good.
